On Tuesday, June 5th, Peter Hauser, MD, Director of the National VA Telemental Health Hub Long Beach presented on: “Hepatitis C and Alcohol”
Lecture Objectives:
1. Explain the epidemiology and course of hepatitis C virus (HCV).
2. Discuss how alcohol impacts the course of HCV.
3. Describe effective ways to manage HCV and alcohol use.
Presenter Bio:
Dr. Hauser was born in Petersburg Virginia. His parents immigrated to the United States from what is now the Czech Republic in the 1950’s. He has worked as a psychiatrist and researcher in the public sector since 1986. Dr. Hauser’s primary research and clinical interests are the psychiatric and substance use disorders co-morbidities in Veterans with hepatitis C, the development of educational products for Veterans with hepatitis C as well as the healthcare providers who treat these patients, and the treatment and underlying causes of interferon-induced depression. More recently the focus of his research has been the treatment of alcohol use disorders in Veterans with hepatitis C and examining the effects of moderate to heavy drinking on immune response. Dr. Hauser has enjoyed long standing and productive research collaborations with fellow co-investigators.
